After a devastating heartbreak three years ago, genealogist and historical village owner Nora Bradford has decided that burying her nose in her work and her books is far safer than romance in the here and now.

Unlike Nora, former Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient John Lawson is a modern-day man, usually 100 percent focused on the present. But when he’s diagnosed with an inherited condition, he’s forced to dig into the secrets of his past and his adoption as an infant, enlisting Nora to help him uncover the identity of his birth mother.

The more time they spend together, the more this pair of opposites suspects they just might be a perfect match. However, John’s already dating someone and Nora’s not sure she’s ready to trade her crushes on fictional heroes for the risks of a real relationship. Finding the answers they’re seeking will test the limits of their identity, their faith, and their devotion to one another.

Why you should read this book:

It is sweet yet complex enough to be interesting. This is a Christian contemporary romance about an adopted Navy SEAL and a genealogist nerd, hello how many times are you going to see that?!

Nora is the middle Bradford sister in this series.

I love her she is her own special brand of nerd! She has a village (like a queen and her kingdom) made out of restored historical buildings that she rents to businesses.

Having suffered from heart break (as most of us have and… if you haven’t lucky you!) Nora buried herself in the day to day and is taken by surprise when she is attracted to a total stranger.

John Lawson is a former Navy SEAL who, due to an illness, wants to find his birth parents.

John is what you would expect of a military man except perhaps that he is a Christian. Cue unknown illness (revealed later on in the book) and now his whole life is on the verge of changing forever.

Due to the illness, John enlists Nora to help in his search for his birth parents.

Thought Bubbles:
I expected this to be a sweet romance and it was. However, there are some heavy issues included and a plot twist I never would have dreamed up!
I was not a fan of the fact that John had a girlfriend in the beginning of the book. This does happen in real life as well as many other things I am not a fan of so it is what it is…
The Bradford sisters have an awesome relationship despite each having a different mother. That story was told in the prequel novella “Then Came You.
All of the sisters are successful in different ways. Nora has her village and runs a historical museum or something along those lines. Her older sister Willow is a model and her younger sister Brit owns a chocolate shop located in Nora’s village.
I have two sisters myself and one is even a half-sister. I love them both the same but I identify with Nora’s insecurities when comparing herself to her sisters.
Becky Wade did a great job crafting their relationship with each other. The sisters’ stories are set up in this book and I cannot wait for them to come out!
Have you read any of her books? What appeals/ doesn’t appeal to you about this book?
